At The Usual Place in Dumfries, we are more than a café; we are a unique skills academy where the potential of young people with learning disabilities is nurtured, confidence is built, futures are shaped, and an inclusive workforce is created. We have proved time and time again that when young people are given the right support, they don’t just participate in their communities—they enrich them.
Our mission is simple yet life-changing and we are guided by our values where everyone is of equal worth, everyone can contribute, and everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. The Usual Place/Inspired Community Enterprise Trust is a registered charity in Scotland (SC050602), and a company limited by guarantee (SC412597).
This year marks 10 years since The Usual Place first opened, responding directly to young people with additional support needs who asked for opportunities to learn, work, and be part of something meaningful. In that time, we have supported thousands of young people, many of whom would have otherwise been marginalised and unseen.
