Huge congratulations to Jack, who has completed his SVQ in Professional Cookery here at The Usual Place. He completed his final module and was presented with a certificate of achievement. As for everyone who trains at The Usual Place, there comes a day when it’s time to move on, and Jack has had an incredible journey here over the years. SVQ Assessor, Chef Tony Budde was here to sign off Jack’s final module on behalf of Dumfries and Galloway College and now Jack awaits the results for his qualification.
From the simplest sandwich to the most exquisite beef wellington, Jack always brings an extraordinary level of skill, focus, creativity and concentration to every piece of work he does in the kitchen. And, oh… the cakes! there have been so many memorable cakes, all beautifully decorated and each one a triumph enjoyed by our customers.
As well as all his training here with the kitchen team at The Usual Place there have been many highlight including: being a member of the team who trained with the award-winning chefs at 1610 at The Globe Inn for our first Fine Dining Fundraising event in 2024; creating a special cake for The Holywood Trust Spring Gathering 2025 and meeting John Swinney MSP, First Minister for Scotland at his recent visit, for whom Jack demonstrated his cookery skills. Jack’s ambition is to become a chef and we are sure he has a great career ahead of him.
Good luck with your next adventure Jack – you should be so proud of everything you have achieved so far and we wish you all the best for your future!
Here are a few photos looking back over just some of Jack’s journey and progress through The Usual Place – we think you’ll agree he has made the most of this opportunity!
