Dine and Empower!
We often share celebratory moments here on Facebook when young people create their fantastic cakes and bakes. So you will be used to seeing photos of Jack and Shania working in the kitchen at The Usual Place or holding one of their cakes as its about to go onto the counter for cafe customers.
Today we want to share something really special that Jack, Shania and other young people from The Usual Place have been working on as part of a special collaboration with the award-winning chefs at The Globe Inn who are generously giving their time and expertise to this project.
It will all come together in a SPECIAL EVENT at The Usual Place on the afternoon of Sunday 11th August when we will transform our building to present a FINE DINNING FUNDRAISING AFTERNOON with an exquisite 3 Course Sunday Lunch prepared by The Globe Inn chefs with trainees from The Usual Place, there will also be arrival drinks, a bar, live music, an auction and a raffle – all celebrating what is great about food, drink, hospitality and tourism in our wonderful region.
The chefs are donating their time and skills to this project in support of our aims. Tickets are on sale now at Midsteeple Box Office and will soon be in The Usual Place shop too. All ticket proceeds and money raised during the event will be used to benefit young people through the work of The Usual Place.
The skills and experiences gained by young people in this project are immeasurable and the opportunities to learn from such experts in this environment is extremely empowering for young people. The best part is that they can build on everything they learn here at The Usual Place in their SVQ training, see it in action at one of the top kitchens in the regionn and bring back their new knowledge to benefit the rest of the team and our customers.
What a fantastic opportunity to increase the employability of young people with additional support needs!
More updates to come!
