Congratulations to Joshua, who has completed his Early Enablement Summer Work Experience programme with The Usual Place.
The programme, run in partnership with Occupational Therapy for Children & Young People: NHS Dumfries & Galloway, allows young people to build on their employability skills and gain confidence in the workplace.
Joshua loved his experience being part of the The Usual Place team. He’s learned how to meet customers, clear tables, and check stock supplies.
“Being here has helped me gain confidence. Working with different people enabled me to learn tasks. My favourite part was working at the Meet and Greet station where I could speak to customers. I liked coming because it’s a friendly environment.”
The group have been supported by National Lottery funding to deliver its personal development and skills programme in its community café, The Usual Place.
The programme is aimed at young people with learning disabilities, on the autistic spectrum and with additional support needs. It aims to improve their confidence, self-worth, social connectedness, problem-solving skills and resilience.
