Lewis tells the story of his journey through The Usual Place to successful employment. Lewis is an SVQ trainee at The Usual Place in Dumfries where he has trained and gained experience in customer service and professional cookery. He has also had valuable experience working with some of Scotland’s finest chefs at The Globe Inn, Dumfries and now works at The Cairndale Hotel & Spa.

Fiona Horsburgh, Enablement Officer at The Usual Place also talks about the broad range of programmes available for young people with additional support needs at The Usual Place – a unique skills academy and community cafe in the heart of Dumfries.

This film was commissioned by Annandale & Nithsdale Community Benefit Company – ANCBC – a Usual Place Funder and was made by CT Communications @weareCTProductions in 2025.

Since making this film, Lewis has been offered a new job and now works full time with the team at The Globe Inn – Winners of The Thistle Award ‘Best Eating Experience in Scotland’ 2024.
